A call to our Melanesian brothers and sisters

While speaking with Mr Julian Moti QC, the former Attorney-General for the Solomon Islands recently, he pointed out to me that few people in the Pacific know about  the current plight of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (Indigenous) Australians. Like everyone else, our brothers and sisters in the Pacific have been hoodwinked by ‘white’ Australian propaganda, which is simply another word for corruption.

The real facts concerning Indigenous Australians are that while we represent only 2.5% of the Australian population we, primarily because of white Australian racism, make up 14% of the total Australian prison population and are 15 times more likely to be in prison than non-Aboriginal Australians to the point where Indigenous Australian prisoners represented 24% of the total prisoner population.

Added to the obvious racism in the Australian ‘justice’ system that has given rise to these astonishingly skewed imprisonment figures, Indigenous Australians now have a life expectancy 17 years less than non-Indigenous Australians. Approximately 30 years ago, life expectatancy for Indigenous peoples in Canada, New Zealand and the United States of America was, like Indigenous peoples in Australia today, significantly lower than that of the respective non-Indigenous populations of those countries.

However, significant gains in life expectation by Native Americans and Canadians and the Maori have been made in recent decades. Today, Australia has fallen significantly behind in improving the life expectancy of its Indigenous peoples. Why is this the case in Australia when comparable countries have shown such improvement? The answer is simple – white Australia is racist and is engaged in a process of subtle genocide of the world’s oldest continuous culture.

In the 2006 Australian Census, the average gross income for Indigenous Australians was $460 per week, only 62% of the rate for non-Indigenous Australians ($740 per week). Added to this Indigenous Australians are about six times more likely to be out of work than white Australians. Again, the only reason for this skewed outcome is white Australian racism.

Inequality in the Australian legal system

Regular readers of Blak and Black may recall that I have discussed on more than one occasion the plight of Ms King, Australia’s most senior Indigenous Australian bank executive. Ms King was racially and indecently assaulted by a white Australian public servant in Canberra several years ago. The white dominated Australian Federal Police have refused to investigate this serious crime committed against an Indigenous Australian woman because the Australian Federal Police don’t investigate crimes committed by white Australians against Indigenous Australians. This is the same Australian Federal Police force that forms the bulk of RAMSI and which the Australian government says is going to bring the ‘rule of law’ to the Pacific. How can a white, racist organisation such as the Australian Federal Police possibly serve the interests of the Melanesian peoples of the Pacific, when it exhibits such unbridled racism in Australia?

The statements I have been collecting over the last six years to support an application I’m intending to make to the United Nations Human Rights Committee alleging racism and the crime of genocide by the Australian Government against its indigenous population demonstrates clearly the racism that informs contemporary Australian society.

The Bill Johnson affair – Australian Federal Police racism and corruption in action

I discussed the Bill Johnson affair in my post The strange case of Bill Johnson, a study in neo-colonial hypocrisy, which was reprinted in the Solomon Star on 17 June, 2011. The post compared the difference in treatment the white dominated Australian Federal Police gave to Mr. Bill Johnson, a white Australian, as compared to the treatment it gave to Mr. Julian Moti, an Australian of Indo-Fijian descent and the former Attorney-General of the Solomons.

Over the next few weeks I will be releasing a number of primary documents which will demonstrate quite clearly that the white dominated Australian Federal Police gave different and more favorable treatment to Mr. Johnson than it gave to the former Solomons Attorney-General Mr. Moti QC.

A request to our Melanesian brothers and sisters

Indigenous Australians and the Melanesian peoples of the pacific are all part of the wider global indigenous population, a population that is under daily threat from the avarice and greed that informs that part of the world known as ‘the west’. The only way we can oppose this juggernaut of greet is to speak with one voice. Indeed, to shout with one voice. Shout that we will not sit idly by and watch our children’s futures being consumed by the juggernaut of greet. As indigenous people we demand more, we demand better, we demand equality!

I ask our brothers and sisters in Melanesia to speak with one voice and to help shine a light on the daily sufferings and humiliations that white Australia meter out to their indigenous peoples. I ask that you approach your leaders and ask them to raise these issues within the Melanesian Spearhead Group and the wider international community.

The peoples of the Pacific would be best served if they spoke with one voice and told white Australia to keep its nose out of their affairs, to return to Australia until they can learn that racism is unacceptable. Australia does not deserve a place in RAMSI, Australia does not deserve a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council, Australia should not be allowed to operate extra-territorially until it address the racism that is so prevalent within its own borders.
