I’ve said this multiple times and in multiple ways, and I’ll keep repeating it.
All those gnashing their teeth and wringing their hands over the prospect of a second Trump presidency really only have themselves to blame.
There have clearly been a lot of losers in developed economies arising out of globalisation. Many tend to write those who have lost jobs, families and income security of as “cookers” without taking the time to seriously analyse the validity of their grievances.
People who feel ignored and disempowered are going to turn to those who pretend to listen, and pretend to offer (un)realistic solutions. Then the mainstream further isolate the “cookers” by labelling them “conspiracy theorists”.
The real problem starts when those who feel abandoned by the left, and drift toward populist rhetoric, become the most influential groups in society.
Populist politicians will promise everything to everyone to get elected, then deliver very little to very few of their popular base, but will most certainly look after their billionaire donors.
When populist politicians fail to deliver, as is almost always the case, they look for scapegoats. Scapegoats are usually never the root cause of the problems, they’re just convenient. What happens when there are no more scapegoats ?
First they came for … when they finally came for me…??
Unfortunately, people who vote for populist politicians are generally voting against their own interests…
